Cinema premiere of "Last Hurrah", Zeil am Main – Great stories in sports don't emerge from a drawing board, but from the boundary of what's possible. When we stood in the cinema in Zeil am Main on June 5, 2026, to celebrate the premiere of our first major athleteXhub documentary "Last Hurrah – The Big Five of my life", one thing became clear: for sponsors and brands, the real lever in modern sports marketing is no longer in interchangeable logo placements. It lies in authentic storytelling that moves people, connects generations, and brings communities together physically. Over 300 guests from all over Germany travelled to see the (probably) final act of an ultra-running legend.
From Lower Franconia to Brazil: The Mission "Big Five"
Grab a coffee, because you need to hear this story from the beginning. In January 2026, we, Julian and Jasper, founders of athleteXhub, sat on a plane to Brazil. In our hand luggage: plenty of camera equipment and a healthy dose of respect for what lay ahead. Our mission? To accompany Hubert Karl. Hubert is no ordinary 67-year-old. He is a legend in the global ultra-marathon scene.
There are five official, extremely tough ultra-marathons on this planet, which are reverently called the "Big Five" in the scene. The Sakura Michi in Japan, the legendary Spartathlon in Greece, the merciless Badwater Run in Death Valley, the Authentic Phidippides Run, and the Brazil 135. Most runners fail miserably at just one of these races. Hubert has finished them all. Some of them even multiple times.
The Brazil 135 in January was to be his "Last Hurrah" – the final, big exclamation mark of an unparalleled athletic career. Julian Zimmermann, who is a passionate filmmaker at heart, had accompanied Hubert in training with the camera for months. In Brazil, we then filmed day and night as a team of three, with the support of Julian Kopf (Hubert Karl's social media manager), swallowing dust, suffering together, and capturing every spark of this extreme mental and physical performance.
The Birth of aXh: When Content Meets Business
Why are we doing this at all? Because we are firmly convinced that the sports market needs a new approach. Exactly in the week of the cinema premiere, we officially launched athleteXhub (aXh). The documentary about Hubert was thus the first major, tangible lighthouse project under our new flag.
Big Cinema in Zeil am Main: A Weekend Full of Emotions
On June 5, 2026, the circle closed. We brought the film to where Hubert's journey once began: his hometown of Zeil am Main.
Over 300 people travelled from all corners of Germany that weekend. Athletes, interested parties, sports enthusiasts, the mayor of Zeil, friends, and family filled the hall to the last seat in several screenings.
For aXh, it was the very first cinema premiere under our own name. This weekend has emotionally welded us together once again and shown us that we are on the absolutely right path.

What Athletes and Sponsors Can Learn from This Success
This project proves the potential that lies in the right staging of sports stories. Athletes must understand that their personal story is their greatest asset. Sponsors, on the other hand, must become more courageous and invest in content formats that remain in memory in the long term.
"Last Hurrah" was just the beginning. We have plenty of such stories in the pipeline at aXh. If you want to take your story to the next level as an athlete or are looking for content as a sponsor that really hits your target group's heart – let's talk or take a closer look at our platform.P.S. A larger cinema tour at several locations is planned. Follow athleteXhub on Instagram to stay up to date.
