How do I get my first sponsorship deal as an endurance athlete

How do I get my first sponsorship deal as an endurance athlete?

You train hard. You give everything. And yet the sponsorship request remains unanswered.
This is not an isolated case. It is the reality for most endurance athletes — and it has nothing to do with your performance.

Why most athletes don't find a sponsor

We conducted personal interviews with decision-makers from leading sports brands during the Challenge Roth.
The result surprised us: 40% of brands receive over 50 sponsorship requests per month. Most of them are incomplete, unprofessional or simply not suitable.
This means: The problem does not lie with the brands. It lies in the fact that athletes do not know how to present themselves professionally and how to find the right brands.

Even more surprising: Only 13% of brands evaluate athletes first based on their social media reach. 40% first look at personality and value fit. Your follower count is therefore far less decisive than you think.

What brands are really looking for

Brands are not looking for an advertising space. They are looking for people who embody their values — authentic, credible, accessible.

What matters specifically:

  • Does your target group match the target group of the brand?
  • Do you really stand behind the products?
  • Can you tell a story that moves customers?

A small, engaged community can be more valuable than 100,000 passive followers. As an individual athlete, you don't sell reach, you sell your story.
And that, told correctly, is irreplaceable.

The 5 steps from profile to first deal

Step 1

Define your added value

Don't ask yourself 'What do I get?' first, but 'What value do I bring to a brand?'
What kind of people do you reach?
What do they buy?
What moves them?

Step 2

Build a professional profile

Sporting achievements, social media metrics, target group, values, story — everything in one place, structured and comparable. On athleteXhub, you fill this out once and have the basis for everything else.

Step 3

Develop further

Sponsoring is more than sport. Brands want to know that you know how a cooperation works – legally, communicatively, in terms of content. Our Online Academy covers exactly these topics: Social Media, Personal Branding, contract basics, communication with brands.

Step 4

Find the right brands — and take proactive action

On athleteXhub, you can see directly which brands fit you and can also contact them directly. Even if there is no suitable brand on the platform at the moment: You can use a professional Generate Pitch-Deck as PDF and your own profile website - for outreach outside the platform.

Step 5

Stay on it

The first deal doesn't come on its own. But those who are active will be rewarded. Already every tenth athlete on athleteXhub has concluded a deal - and that on average within the first 30 days.

Why now is the right time

73% of brands plan their sponsoring budgets in Q3 and Q4.
This means: Those who are visible now and have a professional profile are on the radar exactly when the decisions are made.

Winter is not a break. It's the best time to get ready — so you can start the season in the spring as the athlete that brands want.
